Governance
The 'Review of the role of the Divisions of General Practice' in 2003 made several recommendations about improving the governance of divisions. A key part of the government’s response in 'Divisions of General Practice: Future Directions' was to implement a requirement that all divisions achieve accreditation over the next three years (achieved in Victoria) and that divisions report on their work to improve and develop their capacity to exercise good governance.
GPV was asked to present a national series of workshops for division boards and CEOs on governance, the 'Lead Teams' series, which built on the work that GPV has done since 1998 in supporting good governance within divisions, including the Star Boards© workshops. From that series and associated work, GPV prepared the Governance Toolkit.
GPV continues to support good governance within divisions, providing a quarterly workshop for the directors of boards, with an orientation program in the first quarter of each year, and including workshops on Chairing, Financial Governance, Effective Representation and Advocacy, Negotiation Skills and more advanced governance workshops.
Forthcoming workshops can be reviewed on the Events Calendar.
GPV also provides consultancy support to divisions on governance issues, details are available under the Star Divisions Program
