National Quality and Performance System (NQPS)

In response to the 2003 'Review of the role of Divisions of General Practice', the Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) released its response 'Divisions of General Practice: Future Directions'. This conveyed clarity about government expectations of the network and contained a National Quality and Performance Framework or System.

A key component of that framework is the requirement for all divisions to be accredited.

The framework has now been amended to refine the key performance indicators for the 2008-2012 contract period, and a presentation to Victorian divisions by DoHA in March 2008 about the new framework, contract and indicators is available.

Key focus areas for the framework are: Access, Prevention, Chronic Disease Management, Uptake of National Initiatives and a Local Indicator.

DoHA has also released a document containing answers to the FAQs raised by divisions about the NQPS.

The technical details to support the indicators are available to download from the PHCRIS website.
