Member Rights and Responsibilities

 

Background

 

GPV's membership is made up of the 29 divisions of general practice in Victoria. GPV is committed to effective contact, liaison and consultation with member divisions to ensure a state-wide perspective among GPV Board members about member divisions and their issues and views. The Articles of Association describe categories of membership of GPV and the rights of members which include:  

    • Attend and vote at general meetings of GPV
    • Appoint directors to the Board of GPV
    • Receive annual audited financial statements from GPV
    • Resign from membership of GPV

 

GPV Board Policy

 

 1. GPV will adopt an open, transparent and consultative approach and be inclusive and accessible to member divisions.

 

 2. The board will ensure systems are in place to facilitate regular, ongoing contact/liaison with each board of member divisions. 

 

 3. The Board of GPV recognises that divisions have a right to:

    • Recognition of their autonomy and diversity
    • Access all of GPV's services and programs
    • Contribute to the development of state-wide policy positions
    • Be fairly and properly represented by GPV
    • Expect that GPV will act legally and ethically and competently and be accountable to its members
    • Have complaints about GPV dealt with in a timely and fair manner

 

 4. The Board of GPV expects that as members divisions will:

    • Support the objects of GPV particularly in relation to GPV's roles in advocacy and representation
    • Be actively engaged with GPV
    • Communicate their needs clearly to GPV
    • Encourage the involvement and participation of general practice in state-wide initiatives through division
    • Advise GPV of changes to the division's incorporation status and office bearers
