This workshop will review the governance role and the duties and powers of directors re financial governance and give an overview of current issues for financial governance in divisions. Specifically it will cover:

• Understanding cash and accrual accounting
• Understanding financial reports; Balance Sheet, Income and Expenditure and Cash Flow and how they all fit together and board processes for monitoring financial performance of the organisation
• Unearned grants and their treatment in the accounts
• Role of the auditor and the board’s relationship to the auditor
• Reporting on the finances to stakeholders
